Perfect example; talking to my son and a friend of his before school the yesterday. We were talking about halloween coming and fall starting. His friend was saying how he can't wait to go to all the haunted houses. i laughed and asked him, didn't they scare him? He said "no". He said last year they had Freddy Kruger there . "you know who Freddy Kruger is?" i asked shocked. "yeah, i've seen all those movies." As he listed the movie titles one by one, he said it as a way to impress me. But i was saddened. You see, he is only 9 years old. Those movies are scary and full of hate. They send such a negative message to a young mind. "i've seen all the Saw movies too." he said.
i couldn't believe my ears! Saw! i have never seen those movies, but i know enough to know they are not child friendly! Horrible, sick, vile things that never be spoken, never the less made in to a movie!
Let me tell you, i have watch this boy from a distance for 3 weeks now. He never smiles, always looks at his feet. it's heart breaking.
i wonder, all these movies he's filling his mind with. These negative images, could they be in part to blame for some of the sadness in his eyes? This boy also has an anger problem, are we really surprised?
To be clear, i am not judging anyones parenting choices. We all raise our children differently. All i'm trying to say is let the young be young. They don't need to know the evil of the world yet. Personally i will not watch the news with my kids in the room because i don't know whats going to come on. You see i have been entrusted by God to raise Godly men with pure hearts. So you can call me a prude or overprotective, i will look at it as a compliment. it means i'm doing my job.
i guess what i'm trying to say is. Lets let our kids focus on hot wheels and Dr. Seuss. Lets not rush them to grow up.
