Reading the story of Job, you see the perfect example of bad things happening to a good person. it says many times in Job, that he was found blameless to the Lord. And really isn't that the only way we should be measuring our ourselves, in Gods sight?
You see, you can volunteer at your church, give to the needy, or help a friend, but that is not how God measures us. Sure all of this will be used for his glory, but God will judge the heart. You can do these things begrudgingly, and trust me God will still use the acts for good, but you will not be blessedly in the way you could have been.
As i am reading Job, i feel so sorry for him. He really had no idea what was going on. And on top of all of it, his really good friends are basically lecturing him . Telling him he must have sinned somewhere for all of this to fall in him. They keep telling him that he is being punished.
i think too often we think that the bad things that happen to us are a result of some indiscretion we committed, and now are paying for. in fact, i think in that way we also tend to look at others and judge them when bad things happen to them.
We really need to stop casting stones. Mathew 7:2 "For the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." i love the last part of that verse. Not only you will be judged if you judge, but the " measure you use" will be used to judge you.
Bad things happen. They happen to everyone, at one time or another. i do not believe God is a vicious God, counting up all the ways you have sinned to pay you back. That's not the God i live for. All too often as christains i think we believe bad things won't happen to us, because God is with us. He is with us always, but we also live in a vile sinful world. Why should we not suffer? What makes us any better than the rest?
i pray tonight for all of you. Those who have had bad things happen, or maybe you aren't in the midst of it, but have the scars from the battle before. i pray you can let go. No one will leave this world unscathed in one way or another. But i pray you can find hope and strength in knowing the the one who created this world will help you through it. i believe when we are in the these time God weeps too. When we are broken and hurt God watches us, and i think he hurts for us.
in closing, as always, you are in my prayers. May you let God guide you, and hold you through life's journeys.
