We all see videos on facebook. The cute little ballerina dancing to Aretha Franklin, or the cute howling puppy. They are adorable, and we instantly share, or repost the cuteness. These videos make us laugh, and smile and we want to share the joy with someone else. Right?
Then there are other types of videos, . . . . like the lady who parked in the handcap parking. The father of a handcap boy who actually needed the spot starts video taping her. What follows is a flow of profanities that would make a sailor blush. (Mind you they are at a elementary school when this goes down.) We tisk tisk to ourselves, and/or comment on how horrible and unacceptable her behavior is, and . . . . .share. (Lets get everyone in on throwing the stones.)
Now, am i saying i think her behavior is acceptable?? No. But what about the man taping? Do we know the whole story?? if anyone brings that fact up, we are immediately defensive of our snap judgements. But you know what, i can't help but wonder what people would say about me, if i were being videotaped on my worst day of parenting. And yet if there was a video, how would you know it was just a really bad day? Wouldnt most assume this was my behavior daily? Can you imagine the comments? And thats not the worst part. Lets say you've moved on and forgiven yourself, or apologized for your actions, guess what the internet isn't so forgiving. Once it's viral its there forever.
i really don't think we understand how much lives can be ruined over these things. The internet is a nasty jungle. Things we might just be shocked at, others comment horrible vial things. Telling people to kill themselves. (i am not exagerating here. This is the sad reality).
This subject has been laid on my heart. Honestly i feel we need to act differntly as christians. We need to stop being the judge and jury. it is not our place. it is not our job. You know what else? Jesus died for that woman too. He loves her just as much as you. "Let anyone of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7)
Personally i am going to do my best to not share the shocking/upsetting videos. But be prepared to see that little ballerina dance, dance, dance!
