To be critical, what dose it really mean? Webster's says; inclined to find fault, or judge with severity, often too readily. Heres the best one, occupied with or "skilled" in criticism. Wow, i don't think being critical is what we want down as one of our skills.
This is an huge problem in todays culture. And over the years has crept into the church. i feel our pastors get allot of this criticism and judgment. They didn't preach right, or their analogy wasn't up to par for you. The service ran too late, or there was too much singing. They have a really hard job. Many of us couldn't do it. To be judged and watched 24/7. We need to remember they are human.
We have it drilled into our heads it's ok to judge others, but God says: "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Mathew 7:2). How much criticism are you doling out? Mathew 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." i think it's pretty safe to say that God's against judgment. Now you can judge after you know facts, but too many of us judge instantly on appearances. How about that homeless guy you pass on your way to work? You may think, he's just gonna spend money on beer. How do we know? John 7:24 "stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly."
The only one who can judge is our God and Savior. John 5:27 "And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man." it doesn't say that God and christians can judge. So why are we judging? We need to stop! 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 "Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends."
if you are hard on yourself, chances are you are pretty hard on others. Lets gain our confidence in Christ so that we aren't pulling others down, to raise ourselves up. "Such confidence we have through Christ before God." (2 Corinthians 3:4). Remember Jeremiah 17:7 "Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him." Be that one. Have confidence in Him. Stop judging yourself and others.
