They've wrote a song about it and Websters even has a definition for it! it's become an epidemic. i love selfies just like the rests of us. i started thinking about this the other day. Selfies are a way for us to admire ourselves. Which is ok to a certain extent. What happens when we take the "selfie" into everyday life?
it is easy to become self centered in our world . We are bombard with images that scream, "me, me, me!" it says in Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself." Pretty different message than the worlds. The world wants us to be number 1 in our own minds 24/7.
1 John 2:15 "Do not love the world or anything in the world. if anyone loves the world, love for the father is not in them." What i translate this verse to mean is that God doesn't want anything, to become so consuming in our lives,it overpowers our relationship with him. You see, "things" are fleeting. This world will end some day, and we will not take our things with us. it's not going to matter how many likes our selfie on instagram got.
Galatians 5:24-26 "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the spirit, let us keep in step with the spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."
Lets make sure we can enjoy things in this world, but treasure the moments more. i challenge you to get behind the camera of life instead of in front of it.
