Ever felt like that? Or maybe your feeling like your faith tank is running a little low. . . .Your not alone.
Jesus says in Mathew 17:20 . . . "Truly i tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "move from here to there," and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." if that small amount of faith could move a mountain, how small is ours? Do you have confidence in Jesus Christ? Maybe somedays more than others?
i will admit i feel that way. Sometimes my faith is so strong, (usually when everything is going my way). Then things starts to tear, just a little, at the seams, and i start to waver. i believe, having faith requires allot of strength. 1 Corinthians 16:13 "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong." i don't believe it's a coincidence, that strong and courageous, are right behind the word faith in that verse. To have confidence, that Christ has the uncontrollable under control, is really hard. And i haven't mastered it yet.
Mark 4:40 "He said to his disciples, "why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith." See, even the disciples faltered with their faith, and they got to see all those miracles up close and personal! i believe when Christ said this to them, he wasn't angry or frustrated with them. i think he truly was just confused, like, ok guys seriously you still don't have confidence in me? God's never angry at us when we don't have the amount of faith we need. He usually uses it as an example of how awesome and loving he really is.
My favorite faith story in the bible, Peter walking on water to Jesus. (Mathew 14:22-35) if you haven't read this story i encourage you to do so i it's entirety. i will summarize it here. . . . All the disciples are in a boat far from land (Mathew 14:24). They look out and see someone walking on water, needless to say they freak out. Mathew 14:26 "When the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. "it's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear." Jesus called out and told them not to be afraid it was him. "Lord, if it's you,' Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come,"he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. (verses 28-29) So Peter is walking on water! Amazing right! So put yourself in that position would you even get out of the boat to try? To be honest i don't know if i would.
Peter realizes he's walking on water. He realizes it's humanly impossible, and what does he do? Gets scared. Fear seeped in. The minute he listens to his fear, he starts to sink. How scary for him middle of the ocean at night. Here comes my favorite part . . . . "he was afraid and, beginning to sink cried out, "Lord, save me!" immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" (verses 29-31)
Peters not much different from us, and God hasn't changed. We get scared, we doubt, and Jesus catches us every time. You know i think Peters faith was strengthened in that moment, just like ours is when we cry out, "help Lord," and he comes. Jesus didn't say i'm going teach you a lesson Peter, and let him flounder for a bit, or roll his eyes, telling Peter to stop being so dramatic. Nope, right away reaches out his hand and caught him.
if you take away one thought from this tonight. Let it be that you can call on the Lord at any time, and he will "immediately" reach out his hand and catch you.
in him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
