Prayer. Websters definition, (i love the dictionary, gives such a clear meaning), the act of addressing supplication to a divinity, especially the true God, (wow, even Websters acknowledges there is only one true God); the offering of adoration, confession, supplication, and thanksgiving. A formula of supplication; an expressed petition; especially, a supplication addressed to God. (Supplication, (i had to look up as well), supplication is humble and earnest prayer, as in worship).
When it's all written down seems very clear. i think i have taken prayer way too lightly. i have put God in a box, and made him way too small. i realized this the other day. i was feeling very sick. i was telling everyone who would listen about how ill i felt. Wallowing in self pity, doing all things humanly possiable i could think of to help. Medicine, peppermint tea, hot bath, ect.. Then as i was whining to myself again how miserable i was, God spoke to me. "For all the people you have talked to, and all the things you have done, why have you not asked me? Why am i your last resort?" Hmmm . . .i didn't have an answer for that one.
i don't know about you, but aren't we more apt to post on Facebook our worries than giving them to our heavenly father. Why? i think there are two answers for that. Either we think He can't do it, or that we don't matter enough, and are too small for him to help. Well, it says in Psalms 102:17 "He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject your pleas." Ok, so we know he's listening. So why are we doubting?
We know God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. So if he was healing and helping in biblical days, he's doing it today too. Just because we aren't giving him the recognition, or credit, doesn't mean it wasn't Him.
Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer (Luke 5:16). Why do you think he went to the wilderness? Peace and Quiet! That is an example we need to look at! You can't pray earnestly while you have the TV on or radio blaring. Come into his presence with reverence and quiet.
Don't make God too small! Don't put him in a box! He can do more that we can even fathom. And whether you believe it or not, he cares if your sick, hungry, or tired. Mathew 11:28 "Then jesus said, "come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and i will give you rest."
While Jesus was here on earth he offered prayers and pleadings,
with a loud cry and tears,
to the one who could rescue him from death.
And God heard his prayers because
of his deep reverence for God.
Even though Jesus was God's son he learned obedience from the things he suffered.
