But what tends to happens when we are focused on these little devices in our hands?
i really have been noticing this the last couple days. Now, before you think i am up on my high horse, i am not judging. We, personally are a video game family. As hard as that was for me to come to grips with, we are. Hubby and i each have an iPad, and iPhones. Our 11 year old has a iPad, our 6 year old has a tablet. And i won't even mention the game consoles that are sprinkled throughout our home. i think it's safe to say we have bought into the "techie" life.
Learning to look up
Heres what i am trying to do. Looking up. instead of playing on my iPhone, while waiting for kiddos to get out of school. Getting out, talking with other parents, and breathing the fresh air.
instead of looking at my phone when my kids are telling me a story, (putting the phone down), and making eye contact. Really hearing them. it's amazing what little pieces you miss when you are distracted, and they are only this age once. Relish it.
Here's one i struggle with. Reading my Bible, not on iPad or iPhone. Reason? i get pop ups when a facebook message comes through, so when i'm in the Word and that happens, its distracting. And more than not i click on over to see what was said. How can you get in the Word that way? Constantly being interrupted, by frivolous things.
And lastly, blocking all inappropriate things or comments on facebook. if it doesn't bring me up i don't need it in my life. if it's not Christ centered, i don't want to see it. it doesn't mean i slam someone with a tongue lashing if i don't agree with a post. You can unfollow without hurting feelings.
Remember, life is very short. We are here to lead others to Christ. if there are things in your life that you wouldn't talk about at church, leave them at the alter. My pray for you today is to look up. Don't miss out. i assure you i am in this struggle as well, but i know we can do this with Christ strength.
Phillipians 4:13 "i can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."
