The Back Pew
by Sandra Drew
She sits alone at the end of the pew,
wondering if anyone noticed her,
and what will she do,
if they ask her about her life, if they notice the bruise.
What if they judge the poor condition of her clothes and shoes?
The music begins, they all come to a stand,
she follows along, trying to blend in.
A song of praise comes to her ears,
while a swelling of love calms her fears.
No one is looking, no one comes near,
except a Fathers love who calls her dear.
She knows He sees her, she knows He cares,
and she trusts Him comepletely,
letting go her fears.
She returns His love,
she gives Him her life,
and she leaves the building,
a new creature in Christ.
